If November is a time of thankfulness, December is a time of reflection.

The goal of Alaska Herbal Solutions is to teach people about the plants that grow in Alaska and to offer products made with those ingredients. Simply put: I want you to feel better naturally, the Alaskan way.

What was added this year

Beginners Class to Harvesting Wild Plants

You wanted more classes, so in addition to doing free classes at the Soldotna Library I started working with the Soldotna Community School Classes in November. I still did classes once a quarter at the Library. During the summer, I did various hikes throughout the Peninsula, many in conjunction with Dr. George Spady.

At the beginning of the year, I added five balms and three massage oils to my art and note cards for purchase. After I sold all of the Last Frontier Lavender Balm, Last Frontier Lavender Massage Oil, and Susitna Sandalwood Massage Oil I discontinued them because they do not fit with my value of all the herbal ingredients being able to grow up in Alaska easily.

A Peppermint Lip Balm that doesn’t burn your lips!

Throughout the year, you said you wanted a lip balm, another scent massage oil (Russian River Rosemary won in the end), smaller sizes of everything and a roll on version of Whale of a Wound Balm. Lighthouse Lilac Balm was also added as a replacement for the Lavender Balm.

The upcoming year

December is also a time to look forward.

The roll-ons are a hit and people have been wanting them for all of the balms, so that will definitely be happening. There are also a couple of other products that will make a debut later in 2019. If you want to try out the products before the masses, shoot me an email at info@alaskaherbalsolutions.com for more information.

You also asked for more advanced classes, so you’re getting them! Through the Soldotna Community Schools, I’ll be offering the same three classes as before, in case you couldn’t make it. I’m also adding a fourth free class: Even More Alaska Plants for Everyday Living. Those will take place in February. In April I will be teaching the more advanced classes of How Herbs Work in Your Body, Plants to Use while you’re hiking, and a balm making class. This second set of classes will be $45. For both sets of classes, you need to register with Joel at jtodd@soldotna.org I’ll also be leading more hikes. Keep up to date on the events page as information becomes available. More beginner type videos will be posted on Youtube throughout the year as well.

Here I am, standing next to one of the biggest cottonwoods on the Kenai Peninsula.

2019

Thank you for making 2018 a fantastic year!

Simply put, there’s a lot to come in 2019. I look forward to sharing it with you all!
